The Richmond Valley Regional Job Precinct will investigate opportunities in the high-value agriculture, food processing, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors in the Casino area to unlock new industrial lands and deliver more jobs for the region.
An action plan is being developed to outline recommended changes to the local planning framework. The NSW Government will work closely with Richmond Valley Council on its investigations which include technical studies to define the scope of the precinct including size and exact location.
Regional Job Precincts will deliver faster planning approvals to provide local councils, industry and businesses with greater confidence around future investment and development.
All Regional Job Precincts are being delivered as part of the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund.
The Richmond Valley Regional Job Precinct will offer:
- A strategic location at the intersection of the Bruxner Highway and Summerland Way, with strong freight transport linkages to Queensland and Northern NSW.
- Recent upgrade and expansion to the Northern Rivers Livestock Exchange, the Nammoona Waste and Resource Recovery Centre and the Northern Co-operative Meat Company.
- The precinct will assist with business diversification by identifying value-adding opportunities for existing food processing industries and local producers.
- Opportunities to develop new technology investments in the bioenergy sector for the precinct to utilise waste from agricultural industries.
Work is underway with Richmond Valley Council to commence technical investigations in the coming months.
Community members and landowners will have an opportunity to contribute and provide feedback on this exciting project throughout 2021.
