Project overview

The Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund helps to deliver critical infrastructure and priority initiatives identified in the 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW, NSW State Infrastructure Strategy 2018–2038 and other long-term government plans.

The five areas of focus are improved water security, digital connectivity, Special Activation Precincts (to attract more industry and investment in the regions), rail and road transport connections, and freight linkages.

Project overview

Competitive advantages

  • Providing water security in priority catchments: investing in catchment-scale water security infrastructure for regional NSW including dams and pipelines.

  • Improving digital connectivity across Regional NSW: to bring a faster and more reliable digital network to Regional NSW, ensuring businesses and communities have better access to mobile, internet and digital.

  • Activating regional locations for increased business investment: providing attractive locations and conditions for targeted industries to invest in Regional NSW. So far, Special Activation Precincts have been announced and planning is underway in Parkes and Wagga Wagga. Investigations are also taking place for Special Activation Precincts in the Snowy Mountains and Moree.

  • Improving freight linkages: improving regional freight networks to global gateways to get fresh produce, such as meat, dairy, fruit, nuts and seafood, from Regional NSW to national and international customers as quickly as possible.

  • Improving rail and road passenger transport connections: exploring opportunities to invest in infrastructure that makes travel between regional centres and to metropolitan areas faster and easier, including fast rail.
