The NSW Office of Regional Economic Development team supported the Lithgow District Chamber of Commerce and other key stakeholders to deliver a highly successful two-day investor forum on 21-22 February, highlighting the compelling advantages of conducting business in the region.
The forum explored the emerging investment opportunities within the Lithgow Local Government Area as it builds on its coal-powered energy heritage to support new industries, including manufacturing, new energy, green construction materials manufacturing, recycling, defence and intensive horticulture.
With a 47,000-strong workforce and close proximity to Sydney, as well as highly attractive built and natural endowments, the forum attracted 25 companies across multiple industries.
The forum featured:
- First-hand insights from strategic investors such as Ferrero, Energy Australia and Banpu on the key benefits and commercial opportunities of being based in Lithgow.
- Presentations from all levels of government on the support available to existing and relocating businesses including planning approval support, training and skills, and the pathway to Net Zero targets.
- Highlights of the exceptional liveability of the area with median house prices less than half that of metropolitan areas, high quality schools, a strong community and an outdoors-focused lifestyle.
- Site visits to Thales, Energy Australia, Greenspot’s former Wallerawang Thermal Power Site and the former Portland Cement Works to explore site-specific investment opportunities.
